President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reviewed the latest updates regarding the implementation of the National Program aimed at enhancing reading and writing skills for primary school students. Minister of Education Dr. Mohamed Abdel Latif explained that the program represents the outcome of strategic cooperation between the ministry and international organizations, reflecting a shared commitment to improving the quality of education in Egypt.
The program seeks to strengthen the literacy skills of students facing learning challenges by equipping teachers with the necessary training to instill these essential abilities. According to the minister, the program is currently being implemented across ten governorates, covering 2,000 schools and targeting nearly one million students in its first phase.
These statements came during a meeting held on Tuesday, chaired by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Education and Technical Education Dr. Mohamed Abdel Latif.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy highlighted the president’s close follow-up on the progress of the educational process, coinciding with the start of the new academic year, which recorded an unprecedented attendance rate of 87.5% of the total student body. The meeting also addressed efforts to resolve issues related to student overcrowding and the shortage of teachers.
The discussions further covered curriculum development efforts. The minister noted that 94 curricula across various educational stages have been updated through a committee comprising teachers, academic experts, and university professors to ensure their quality. He also announced the launch of a teacher training program on the new curricula in cooperation with UNICEF, in addition to introducing new subjects such as programming and artificial intelligence as part of the broader development plans.
The meeting also discussed the investment priorities for the education sector in the 2025–2026 fiscal year, including increasing the number of distinguished and competitive schools to improve the quality of educational outcomes. Discussions also touched on the development of technical and applied education by partnering with the private sector to establish applied technology schools designed to equip students with skills that align with labor market demands.
Regarding the new Egyptian Baccalaureate system, introduced for the first time this year, the minister explained that it is based on similar principles to the General Secondary Education system but with fewer subjects and more flexible testing opportunities. This, he added, has contributed to raising enrollment rates in the program to nearly 88% since its launch.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the Egyptian-German Schools Initiative, under which the first school was inaugurated in 6th of October City. The plan foresees a gradual expansion to open 100 additional schools across various governorates. The minister emphasized that the initiative provides an integrated education system starting from kindergarten through secondary school, with quality and sustainability ensured through carefully planned annual expansion.
