Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, stated that the Ministry is celebrating Arab Housing Day under the slogan “Rebuilding Affected Communities – Building a Better Future” in parallel with World Habitat Day. He emphasized that this occasion highlights the right to housing as one of the fundamental human rights, as well as the role of governments in ensuring it through effective policies and ambitious plans.
He added that, thanks to the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt has undergone a major transformation in the housing and urban expansion sector, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030. Despite local and global economic challenges, particularly the rising costs of construction materials worldwide, Egypt has achieved tangible success in providing adequate housing for various social groups and continues to steadily implement development projects without interruption.
The Minister explained that the state gives great attention to rebuilding affected communities, whether in the case of internal buildings impacted by natural disasters such as floods or by climate change.

In addition to its regional efforts to support the reconstruction of countries affected by internal crises, Egypt is preparing the National Strategy for Sustainable Green Building and has adopted the Climate Change Strategy 2050. This strategy includes housing sector adaptation policies such as developing green buildings and smart cities to reduce carbon footprints and strengthen resilience against extreme weather events. The state has also developed interactive maps to identify areas most exposed to disasters, with the aim of redesigning affected regions for sustainable reconstruction while ensuring residents’ safety.
Engineer El-Sherbiny further stressed that the Ministry is adopting an advanced strategy to enhance infrastructure and guarantee balanced urban growth. This is being achieved through expanding smart cities that utilize modern technologies and advanced construction techniques, transforming the challenges of urban growth into opportunities for sustainable development that improve citizens’ quality of life while preserving the environment. Within this framework, Egypt launched the National Smart Cities Strategy in 2025, redefining the concept of a smart city by focusing on urban sectors, housing, and economic innovation.
The Minister also pointed out that the Second Voluntary National Review (2020–2024) reflects Egypt’s progress in implementing the New Urban Agenda and serves as a roadmap for developing various fields, including national projects and efforts that redistributed population and created new investment opportunities.
Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny concluded his statement by reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to improving the quality of life for every Egyptian citizen. This is achieved by leveraging modern technology to support sustainable development and creating integrated urban communities that combine economic growth with environmental protection to secure a better future for all.
