President El-Sisi Directs the Launch of Preparations for a New Human Rights Strategy

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that during the meeting, the President reviewed the key outcomes of Egypt’s participation in the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Egypt’s participation included presenting its views and positions on various regional and international issues during multiple meetings.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also presented a comprehensive report on Egypt’s participation, detailing bilateral meetings and side events held on the sidelines of the session. He highlighted the international appreciation for President El-Sisi’s wise leadership, which has strengthened Egypt’s role as a pillar of stability and security amid international and regional challenges.

During the meeting, the fourth executive report of the National Human Rights Strategy (2021–2026) was reviewed. The Foreign Minister, as head of the Supreme Standing Committee for Human Rights, pointed to the progress achieved in implementing the strategy, with positive indicators increasing across all areas. These include the promotion of civil and political rights, as well as economic, social, and cultural rights, in addition to efforts to protect and empower women, children, youth, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. The report emphasized a commitment to applying comprehensive visions that uphold human rights and equality without discrimination.

The spokesperson stressed that the President underscored the importance of continuing efforts to ensure the full implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy and integrating it within national strategies and plans. He also reaffirmed the Egyptian state’s commitment to respecting and promoting the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution, in line with Egypt’s international obligations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President El-Sisi directed the continuation of raising public awareness of the importance of human rights and the responsibilities associated with them. He also called for the development of the legislative and institutional framework to support this approach and instructed the preparation of a new strategy, in cooperation with national bodies and civil society, to further enhance these efforts in the future.
