Housing Ministry: New Cities Are No Longer Just Residential Projects but Have Become Economic and Investment Pillars

Dr. Abdelkhalek Ibrahim conveyed a greeting message from Eng. Sherif Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, expressing his thanks to the conference organizers. He highlighted that Egypt is currently witnessing an urban and developmental leap within the framework of Egypt Vision 2030, which places urban development at the forefront of its priorities to improve the quality of life for Egyptian citizens while considering the Sustainable Development Goals. He noted that after a decade of implementing this vision, the state has begun reaping the benefits of executed projects, reflecting remarkable success in achieving a significant portion of the desired objectives.

The Assistant Minister pointed to the challenges associated with meeting citizens’ needs, mentioning that nearly two million people have been resettled in areas offering a better standard of living. Additionally, projects for social, middle-income, and developed housing have been implemented—an achievement considered highly significant given the continuous population growth. He emphasized the need to continue expanding services in cooperation with the private sector to support the state’s efforts in this field.

Housing Ministry: New Cities Are No Longer Just Residential Projects but Have Become Economic and Investment Pillars

He added that new cities are no longer merely residential projects but have transformed into economic and investment hubs aimed at creating job opportunities and attracting investments. He stressed that the strategic goal is to turn these cities into centers of economic activity. Achieving this direction requires genuine partnerships with the private sector, which has driven the state to expand such collaborations recently, bringing the number of joint projects to around 100, an increase of 25%, reflecting the success of this approach in implementing future plans and strategies.

The Assistant Minister explained that work is underway to develop a real estate platform to organize the market and promote property exports, in addition to enhancing the social dimension by securing housing for over two million units across all social segments, balancing the impact of population growth with the state’s social responsibility.
