World Urban Forum Concludes in Cairo with Focus on Affordable Housing and Urban Development

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, highlighted the discussions on housing and urban development at the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF), which wrapped up today in Cairo. The forum, held from November 4-8, brought global leaders together to address critical issues in housing and sustainable urban growth.

“We explored every citizen’s right to accessible and affordable housing,” said El-Sherbiny. “The core message of the forum was the power of collective action and shared rights.”

In his closing remarks, El-Sherbiny noted that the gathering occurred amid rapid urban expansion, which brings complex challenges but also significant opportunities to enhance urban life. “Each challenge is a chance to find solutions that improve the quality of life,” he stated, emphasizing that the forum fostered valuable exchanges focused on innovative solutions for affordable housing and resilient, climate-adaptive cities.

The forum’s closing discussions reinforced the need for collaboration across nations and sectors to address global urban challenges, ensuring that urban expansion benefits individuals and communities alike.
