Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met with ministry officials, representatives of executing entities, and the Project Management Unit (PMU) to discuss the status of ongoing drinking water and sanitation projects and address the obstacles hindering their progress.
Formation of a Committee to Monitor Delayed Projects
Ismail opened the meeting by referring to Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, the Minister of Housing’s decision to form a committee that monitors delayed projects. This committee will work on finding quick solutions to overcome obstacles and ensure the optimal use of allocated investments. The executing entities must submit a weekly updated report on work progress and proposals for addressing challenges.
The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of coordination among all relevant entities, including the ministry, the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation, the Executive Agency, the Holding Company for Drinking Water, the New Urban Communities Authority, and contracting companies. He also stressed the need for regular meetings to follow up on challenges and establish technical and contractual solutions to adhere to the specified timelines.
Ismail directed using project analysis techniques and value engineering to conduct a study that prioritizes interventions and determines the best ways to utilize investments. He also underscored the significance of weekly follow-up committee meetings to remove obstacles and accelerate project execution.
The Deputy Minister concluded by emphasizing the need for all parties to fulfill their responsibilities and coordinate with the relevant authorities to ensure swift completion and maximize benefits for citizens.
