Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, has announced the commencement of the trial operation for the second phase of the New Cairo Water Treatment Plant. With a capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day, this project aims to meet the city’s water needs during the upcoming summer, support new urban expansions, and ensure stable water pressure.
As part of the operational preparations, Engineer Abdel-Raouf El-Gheity, Head of the New Cairo City Authority, Engineer Mohamed Mohie, Deputy Head of the Authority for Station Sector, and several other officials conducted an inspection tour of the plant’s components. The tour included verifying the cleaning and sterilization of four clarifiers and nine filters and ensuring the readiness of the chlorine and alum systems. Additionally, the team inspected and disinfected the 20,000 cubic meter water storage tank and confirmed the efficiency and preparedness of the sludge treatment system.
During the tour, the Head of the New Cairo City Authority emphasized the importance of maintaining a steady water flow to the clarifiers and increasing the frequency of washing essential water production filters. He also stressed the necessity of operating all components to ensure continuous water sampling and quality checks. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of coordinating with the Ministry of Health to collect and analyze chemical, biological, and bacteriological samples to confirm their suitability for use.
