Counselor Mohamed Al-Homsani, spokesperson for the Cabinet, affirmed that the state is making significant efforts to ensure the availability of a sufficient number of alternative housing units for tenants before the expiration of the 7-year grace period.
During a phone-in on the program “Ala Mas’ouliyati” broadcast on Sada El Balad TV channel, Al-Homsani pointed out that rental contracts signed before 1997 do not fall under the scope of the old rent law.
He explained that the Ministry of Housing will play a key role in providing these alternative units, with the Ministry of Local Development also contributing through relevant bodies, including governors, who will be responsible for determining appropriate rental values for each residential or commercial area. He also added that ministries are cooperating to develop a digital platform that will facilitate access to alternative housing units.
