Counselor Mahmoud Fawzy, Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and Political Communication, announced that the government has adopted a new mechanism aimed at providing alternative housing for beneficiaries affected by amendments to rental laws. This initiative comes in response to the outcomes of societal dialogue and the directives of the political leadership, which prioritize social and humanitarian considerations.
In a phone interview with TV host Nashaat El-Dihy during the “Bel Wara’a Wel Qalam” program aired on TeN channel on Tuesday evening, Fawzy confirmed that the new draft law clearly stipulates the right of affected groups to obtain alternative housing units from those available within the state’s resources.
He also pointed out that a dedicated electronic platform will be launched to receive applications, with terms and conditions that differ significantly from those applied in current social housing programs, due to the unique nature of the target groups.
Fawzy clarified that the new law specifies the categories eligible for the mandatory legal alternative—chief among them being the original tenant, who is often elderly, as well as their spouse and parents, all of whom are typically included in the extended rental contract. He affirmed that the allocation of these units may be through either rental or ownership arrangements, depending on each family’s specific circumstances.
