The Government Intends to Withdraw the Old Rent Law from Parliament

The Old Rent Law continues to be a topic of concern for many citizens across various governorates, amid ongoing debate about its future. In this context, MP Mohamed Atia El-Fayoumi, Head of the Housing Committee in the House of Representatives, clarified the government’s alleged intention to withdraw the Old Rent Law draft previously submitted to Parliament.

Is the Government Withdrawing the Old Rent Law Draft from Parliament?

During a phone interview on the TV program “Hazrat Al-Mowaten” on Al-Hadath Al-Youm channel, El-Fayoumi confirmed that the idea of withdrawing the Old Rent Law draft from Parliament has neither been proposed nor considered.

He added that Counselor Mahmoud Fawzy, the Minister of Parliamentary and Legislative Affairs, stated that the government is open to accepting any perspective Parliament sees fit regarding the Old Rent Law.

He concluded by stressing that the Old Rent Law will not be passed or issued until a fair balance is ensured between tenants and landlords.
