President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has approved the establishment of a university city for non-resident students at East Port Said National University. As part of an urban investment project, the city will cover an area of 47,497 square meters on a plot of land in the First District of New Port Said City, Salam Misr. The President also directed the Minister of Higher Education to present the project details, including its components, cost, funding mechanism, and implementation timeline.
Dr. Atef Alam El-Din expressed his appreciation for the President’s decision, which addresses students’ daily commuting challenges to the new city. He emphasized that establishing the university city would contribute to students’ psychological stability, support urban development, and provide community services in a town designed to develop Sinai and connect West and East Port Said with the cherished Sinai region.
Alam El-Din confirmed that the university’s board of directors successfully obtained approval from the New Urban Communities Authority, chaired by Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, to allocate 12 residential plots and eight mixed-use plots in the distinguished housing area of East Port Said, Salam. This allocation aims to establish a logistics zone to serve East Port Said National University students. The approval stipulates that the land will be allocated through the New Port Said City Authority – Salam, following the pricing determinations of specialized committees. Additionally, detailed land data must be prepared with the relevant sectors.
The President of East Port Said National University has urged the Ministry of Transport to expedite the construction of a paved road from the Tafree’a Ferry in Port Fouad to the university site in Salam Misr City. This road will facilitate students’ and residents’ access to the city. He stressed that the availability of permanent transportation depends on a direct and well-maintained road, which will save time and costs while encouraging settlement and commuting to and from the city.
He also added that the university had requested Minister Kamel El-Wazir to establish a direct road connecting West and East Port Said to serve the city, including East Port Said National University, the Technological University, and approximately 3,000 citizens eligible for the social housing project in East Port Said.
