Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, chaired a meeting to review the water and wastewater sector’s electromechanical equipment needs over the next five years, with the participation of representatives from the relevant authorities.
Ismail stressed the importance of localizing electromechanical industries related to water purification, wastewater treatment, and desalination, giving preference to locally produced equipment to reduce imports and strengthen national capabilities.
The meeting discussed future requirements for equipment such as pumps, generators, transformers, and membranes, while working to unify technical specifications between the ministry and the Arab Organization for Industrialization’s factories to ensure local availability.
Ismail praised the Organization’s cooperation in ongoing projects, affirming its manufacturing capacity to meet market demands and expand the local component share.

Major General Hossam Badran, Head of the Technical Sector at the Organization, confirmed the readiness of the factories to meet requirements through a five-year manufacturing plan that includes specialized equipment and solar panels.
Ismail directed the formation of joint working groups to hold monthly meetings to follow up on implementation, resolve obstacles, and study the application of solar energy in water plants as a first step toward wider adoption.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the Organization to deepen local manufacturing, ensure project sustainability, reduce costs, and enhance industrial and economic security.
