MP Dr. Mohamed El-Fayoumi, Head of the Housing Committee in the House of Representatives, stated that the government had previously requested the Housing Committee be tasked with drafting a law regarding old rental contracts following the Constitutional Court’s ruling, while ensuring the satisfaction of all involved parties.
El-Fayoumi added during a phone interview with media host Mostafa Bakry on the program Facts and Secrets on Sada El-Balad TV, that the government had asked the Speaker of the House for a grace period to present the draft law; however, it has not yet been submitted.
He noted that, according to his information, studies are currently underway, expressing his hope that the government will submit the draft law before the end of the current month so it can be studied.
He also emphasized the importance of having a clear understanding of the scale of the issue, pointing out that the government has accurate statistics on the number and locations of housing units. This includes residential units located in densely populated areas with lower socio-economic standards, which require suitable solutions for those communities.
He said, “In such cases, the state must intervene through social housing to address the needs of this segment and provide them with alternative housing. Under no circumstances can a family be left on the streets.”
El-Fayoumi clarified that he is not concerned about residents living in upscale neighborhoods.
