Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, met with Engineer Nafisa Hashem to discuss a draft law to amend specific provisions of Building Law No. 119 of 2008. Officials from the Ministry of Housing and the General Organization for Urban Planning attended the meeting. El-Sherbiny emphasized that the law was issued following a new methodology that consolidates all building-related regulations into a single law, focusing on monitoring the effects of its implementation and addressing the challenges citizens and specialists face.
The Minister of Housing praised the efforts to prepare the proposed amendments to the Building Law, highlighting the coordination between the Cabinet’s Advisory Board, the Ministry of Justice, and other relevant entities. During the meeting, Engineer Nafisa Hashem presented the key aspects of the amendments, which include redefining the responsibilities of the Supreme Council for Urban Planning, specifying the duties of the General Organization for Urban Planning, overseeing the technical supervision of urban planning departments in the governorates, and replacing strategic plans with urban development plans to expand the scope of planning.
The meeting also addressed amendments related to the regulation of construction activities, which aim to simplify and facilitate procedures for citizens while establishing controls to ensure structural safety and swiftly address unlicensed construction. Additionally, the amendments seek to preserve real estate assets by enforcing provisions related to the separation of homeowners’ associations, particularly in residential communities, to improve maintenance management.
