Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, reviewed the progress of utilities projects within the Sheikh Zayed City expansion area. The expansion spans approximately 8,500 acres under Presidential Decree No. 77 of 2017, located parallel to the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road.
The minister highlighted that the master plan for land use in the area includes diverse activities aimed at offering numerous investment opportunities and transforming the region into a fully integrated urban community, comparable to the existing Sheikh Zayed City. He emphasized that the state’s urban development plan primarily focuses on economic growth rather than construction alone, aiming to expand inhabited areas to drive economic development.
The detailed plan for the expansion area incorporates activities such as integrated urban developments, service facilities, investment projects, residential areas, commercial zones, and multi-use spaces. Eng. El-Sherbiny urged rapid progress on the ongoing projects, adherence to quality standards, and precise monitoring of execution rates.
Eng. Marwa Hussein, Head of the Sheikh Zayed City Development Authority, outlined the ongoing projects in the expansion area, including:
- Installation of sewage pipelines with diameters of 1200 mm, 1000 mm, 800 mm, 630 mm, and 250 mm across the entire expansion area.
- Construction of water pipelines, including 1200 mm diameter pipes for main supply from the Sheikh Zayed City station and distribution lines with diameters of 800 mm, 630 mm, and 250 mm.
She emphasized that the expansion area has been designed to match the architectural and service standards of Sheikh Zayed City, ensuring a cohesive urban and service environment.
