Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, met today at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital with Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, to discuss the development plan for the Northwestern Coast and the status of targeted hotel rooms. The meeting was attended by Dr. Walid Abbas, Vice Chairman of the New Urban Communities Authority for Planning and Projects.
During the meeting, Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny outlined the vision for redeveloping the Northwestern Coast. The aim is to revitalize inland areas along the coast, increasing their economic value and promoting investment. The plan seeks to maximize the region’s economic potential and enhance its aesthetic and urban appeal.
The minister added that the project’s vision also focuses on improving the region’s contribution to the local economy by effectively utilizing its spatial and tourism resources. This will involve creating mechanisms and incentives to attract more investments.
El-Sherbiny presented details of the urban area in the Northwestern Coast, noting that by 2030, the developed land in Matrouh Governorate is expected to exceed 1.3 million feddans, compared to the current 744,000 feddans developed so far.
He also referred to Presidential Decree No. 361 of 2020, which allocated land in the Northwestern Coast under the jurisdiction of Alexandria and Matrouh Governorates. The development priorities include four main phases, with the first priority being Marina Alamein.
El-Sherbiny explained the strategic plan for Marina Alamein’s southern expansion, aiming to preserve the area’s environmental, heritage, and social values. The plan balances the needs of tourists, visitors, and residents by increasing recreational and tourist activities along the coastal waterfront and the artificial lake. The project also aims to create a recreational hub connected to green networks and tourist attractions, making it a major destination for visitors.
Regarding the current status of hotel developments, El-Sherbiny stated that 48 hotels have already been built, providing a total of 7,252 hotel rooms and 3,047 hotel units (apartments, chalets, villas), with an operational rate of 88%.
