Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly addressed the ongoing debate surrounding the implementation of the Old Rent Law following its approval. Many questioned who would be responsible for enforcing the law and providing alternative housing after the designated time frame, especially in the event of a change in government. He clarified that the implementation of this law is not linked to any specific cabinet, but rather represents a commitment and duty upheld by the state as a whole, regardless of which administration is in office at the time.
Madbouly reaffirmed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s statement that the state will never abandon its responsibility to ensure safe and suitable housing for those who deserve it. He added that he has issued direct instructions to immediately begin implementing all necessary steps related to the new law to ensure its objectives are fully realized.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the complexity of this issue, noting that it has remained untouched by previous governments for many years. With the recent ruling from the Constitutional Court, the current government deemed it necessary to take action, while also considering the various perspectives surrounding the issue, all of which, he noted, carry reasonable points worthy of careful consideration.
He concluded by emphasizing the state’s commitment to providing suitable alternatives for rental units in a way that strikes a fair balance between the rights of landlords and tenants.
