Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, followed up on the progress and implementation status of the new book market in the Azbakeya area, accompanied by several officials. The Minister of Housing presented an overview of the project’s progress, which includes the establishment of new outlets for book sales over a total area of 805 square meters, along with development works aimed at improving services in the area, such as the construction of kiosks, restrooms, and a management building for the site.
In this context, the minister reviewed the mechanisms for operating book and beverage kiosks inside the historic Azbakeya Garden, stressing the importance of adhering to a unified architectural design, avoiding random signage, and refraining from using overly bright spotlights that would conflict with the heritage character of the area. He also emphasized the need for regular maintenance of the kiosks under the supervision of specialized consultants to preserve their aesthetic and civilized appearance.
The minister noted that kiosks have been handed over to beneficiaries, with the establishment of a buffer zone designated for the market to facilitate the movement of visitors and commuters to and from the metro station without disrupting ongoing work. He also announced coordination with the National Authority for Tunnels to soon open a metro gate overlooking the book market directly.

The Prime Minister praised the modern and civilized look of the kiosks after their development, particularly with the choice of names of prominent Egyptian writers and thinkers to adorn them. He stressed the importance of preserving this distinguished image of the new market. During his visit, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly handed over a number of contracts to kiosk owners who were relocated from the old Azbakeya Wall to the new market. One of the kiosk owners presented historical photographs showing the different stages of the Azbakeya Wall and the transformations it has undergone over time.
For his part, the Governor of Cairo explained that temporary permits were granted to kiosk owners until the completion of the official handover procedures of all contracts. The kiosk owners expressed their appreciation for the efforts made to develop the market, affirming their pride in receiving contracts for their kiosks. They also highlighted their eagerness to work in a clean, modern, and civilized environment that aligns with the spirit of the New Republic and the progress witnessed across the country in various sectors.
