During the ceremony for placing the containment structure of the first reactor at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressed his thanks and appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin for participating in the event and for his significant interest in the Dabaa nuclear project.
El-Sisi announced that this day marks the beginning of a new phase in Egypt’s nuclear energy project, emphasizing the strategic and stable nature of the relations between Egypt and Russia. He stressed that the Dabaa project sends a clear message reflecting Egypt’s determination to continue progressing strongly and that cooperation with Russia benefits both the Egyptian and Russian peoples.
He explained that the carefully made decisions ensure Egypt’s energy stability, praised the special position Egypt holds in this field, commended the efforts of engineers from both countries, and encouraged them all to continue working to achieve the best results.
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin described President El-Sisi as the initiator of the Dabaa Nuclear Project, expressing his pride in participating in this historic moment. Putin noted that the first unit of the plant has a production capacity of 460 megawatts, pointing out that the cooperation between Egypt and Russia has opened wide opportunities for exchanging expertise, with the possibility of increasing energy production by about 35,000 kilowatts after the unit becomes operational.
Putin also expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the completion of the project, confirming that the volume of trade between the two countries has increased by one-third compared to the previous year. He mentioned the establishment of the Russian Free Zone along the Suez Canal as part of enhancing bilateral economic relations.
