President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in the city of El Alamein. The two leaders held closed bilateral discussions, followed by expanded talks with their respective delegations, addressing ways to strengthen bilateral relations and regional developments.
During a press conference, President El-Sisi welcomed his Somali counterpart, highlighting the deep fraternal ties between the two nations and the significance of the visit in enhancing their strategic partnership to support development and stability in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
In their discussions, President El-Sisi and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reviewed the security and political situation in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea security, agreeing to enhance cooperation to ensure regional stability.
The talks also explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations in line with the joint political declaration aimed at elevating strategic partnership.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of coordination in military and security fields, referencing the military cooperation protocol signed in August 2024 to support Somali personnel’s capabilities and counterterrorism efforts. They also addressed Egypt’s participation in the new African Union mission in Somalia, stressing the need for coordination with international partners to ensure sufficient and sustainable funding for the mission.
