The joint parliamentary committee in the House of Representatives, formed to discuss amendments to the Old Rent Law, announced the continuation of its hearings with stakeholders involved in the project during the upcoming period, according to its meeting held today.
MP Mohamed Atiya El-Fayoumi, Chairman of the Housing Committee in the House of Representatives, confirmed that community dialogue sessions on the government-proposed amendments to the Old Rent Law will continue. He noted that a number of governors from areas with the highest concentration of units leased under the Old Rent Law have been invited to attend a session next Sunday.
For his part, MP Ahmed El-Sigini, Chairman of the Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives, called on representatives of tenants and landlords—especially lawyers—to submit proposals and legal texts for amending the Old Rent Laws.
This came at the conclusion of the joint parliamentary committee’s hearing session dedicated to discussing the draft amendments to the Old Rent Laws, during which the committee listened to the views of tenant representatives.
El-Sigini pointed out that the Egyptian state aims through this file to achieve justice and balance, while preserving real estate assets, ensuring public safety from buildings at risk of collapse, and promoting societal peace.
He also noted that landlord representatives did not reach a consensus during the meeting regarding the transitional period, and the same applies to tenant representatives.
