Monitoring the Development Project between Sphinx Airport and the Saqqara Pyramid

Dr. Abdel Khalek Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing, received representatives from the British company WATG, which is leading a consortium to develop the strategic master plan for the tourism development project between Sphinx International Airport and the Saqqara Pyramid area. The meeting was attended by Dr. Hend Abdel Halim, Deputy Governor of Giza, Ambassador Khaled Tharwat, and representatives of the relevant authorities. The project aims to promote comprehensive tourism development in the Pyramids area in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Giza Governorate, as part of Egypt’s national tourism strategy.

The meeting was held in the presence of Dr. Maha Fahim, Chairperson of the General Organization for Physical Planning, along with several consultants and representatives of development authorities. Discussions covered previous studies, outcomes from the first phase, and the state’s vision for developing the area surrounding the Giza Pyramids. Emphasis was placed on the importance of the project in enhancing the cultural and historical brand of the area and attracting tourists through digital marketing and technology.

Representatives from the British company presented their vision for developing the area and outlined the future steps of the project, including the preparation of the strategic plan deliverables and its financial impact on both local and national economies. The discussions also included building partnerships with local companies to promote sustainable economic practices and establishing a framework for measuring success through key performance indicators. The consortium will present a strategic plan based on global best practices in tourism, heritage preservation, and smart city planning, with a focus on land use, infrastructure, visitor experience, and attracting investment.
