Ministry of Housing Prepares New Cities for Winter Rainfall

Eng. Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, has overseen the preparations of several cities, including New Suez, New Assiut, New Beni Suef, and Sheikh Zayed, for the upcoming winter season and its expected rainfall. The preparations are based on inspection reports and regular assessments.

The Minister emphasized the need for comprehensive measures to handle winter rains, focusing on three key areas: improving rainwater drainage systems, crisis management and emergency protocols, and rapid intervention units. He called for innovative solutions to better absorb rainwater and instructed city authorities to ensure the readiness of equipment and teams around the clock.

In New Suez City, Asmaa Makhlouf, Head of the City Authority, inspected the city’s disaster and crisis management equipment and vehicles. She stressed the importance of conducting regular simulations and ensuring that drainage systems and equipment are in optimal condition, especially in the industrial zones.

In New Assiut City, Yasser Abdullah, the City Head, reviewed the preparedness of equipment and personnel for the rainy season, including drainage system maintenance and readiness of water stations. The inspection aimed to ensure smooth operations in handling potential flooding.

Meanwhile, in New Beni Suef City, Ahmed Abdel Gabar, the City Head, inspected the city’s water treatment plants and emphasized the need for regular maintenance and quality control to prevent any operational disruptions. He also called for swift completion of all electrical power supply enhancements to ensure the stations function optimally during heavy rains.

In Sheikh Zayed City, Marwa Hussein Amin, the City Head, monitored the cleaning and testing of rain drains across the city’s districts and inspected the water purification station to ensure all systems were running efficiently. She also oversaw maintenance work on public lighting as part of the broader effort to enhance city infrastructure ahead of the winter season.

These efforts reflect the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding urban areas and ensuring the efficient management of rainfall during winter.
