Engineer Sherif El-Shorbiny, Minister of Housing, and Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture, conducted an inspection visit to the seawater desalination research station project in New Alamein City. The two ministers emphasized the importance of coordination between their ministries to conduct agricultural experiments. Current efforts are focused on soil and water analysis to design appropriate crop structures for water-efficient produce, such as vegetables and fruits, along with selected strategic field crops.
El-Shorbiny and Farouk explained that the success of this experimental project could pave the way for new agricultural investment opportunities in this promising region.
It will enable the development of agricultural ventures in New Alamein, transforming parts of the area into modern centers for agricultural production. These centers would utilize the latest techniques in irrigation and water-saving cultivation, relying on seawater desalinated through advanced processes.
The ministers further noted that these experiments are part of the national strategy to harness the agricultural potential of new coastal zones and to expand the country’s cultivable land area using desalinated water. This initiative is aimed at enhancing food security and promoting sustainable development.
