On Monday, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, will present an overview to the Egyptian Parliament on the ministry’s policies and strategies aimed at controlling population growth. During the session, the Minister will discuss the ministry’s urban expansion policies, which focus on enhancing existing new cities and establishing fourth-generation cities along key development corridors.
The Minister’s statement will also cover strategies to bridge developmental gaps by upgrading informal settlements and addressing unplanned areas, along with updates on the resolution process for construction violation reconciliations. Furthermore, he will outline the ministry’s policies for expanding social and middle-income housing programs to meet citizens’ needs and support sustainable development.
In a related session on Tuesday, the Parliament will hear a report from Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, detailing the ministry’s plans for local governance. Her presentation will address financial and organizational reform measures for local units, policies to combat building violations, and efforts to prevent encroachment on agricultural land, all aimed at achieving sustainable urban and agricultural growth. Dr. Awad will also discuss steps to finalize construction violation reconciliations and strategies for empowering local units to lead economic development, enhance transparency, improve citizen complaint response systems, and develop monitoring mechanisms.
Additionally, Parliament will discuss Presidential Decree No. 449 of 2024, which approves the executive agreement for the “Promotion of Rights and Inclusion for People with Disabilities in Egypt” program, signed between Egypt and Italy on March 17, 2024. This program seeks to enhance the rights and social inclusion of individuals with disabilities.
