Minister of Housing Reviews Winter Preparedness for West Cairo Cities

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting this morning at the headquarters of the 6th of October City Authority to review the readiness of new cities in West Cairo (6th of October, Sheikh Zayed, New October, and October Gardens) for the upcoming winter season and to assess plans for handling rainwater. The meeting was attended by Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister, Eng. Amin Ghoneim, Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority for Development and City Affairs, Dr. Hassan El-Shorbagi, Vice President for Real Estate and Commercial Affairs, along with other officials and heads of city authorities.

Rainwater Management Plans

During the meeting, the minister was briefed on the measures taken to manage rainwater in the coming winter. City officials explained that efforts are focused on three parallel areas: upgrading the rainwater drainage systems, crisis and emergency management, and rapid intervention units.

Collaboration Between City Authorities

The minister emphasized the need to adopt innovative solutions for rainwater absorption, such as groundwater recharge wells. He also stressed the importance of ensuring that all equipment and work teams are on standby around the clock, with coordination between city authorities to respond quickly to critical areas.

Ongoing Projects in the Ministry of Housing

Additionally, the minister followed up with the heads of West Cairo cities (6th of October, Sheikh Zayed, New October, and October Gardens) on the status of ongoing projects and the implementation of directives from the previous inspection visit. He instructed the development of a comprehensive financial plan for revenues and expenditures through 2030, emphasizing the need to maximize self-sustaining financial returns and efficiently utilize the available equipment and assets in these new cities.
