The Implementation Status of Housing Units Under the “Housing for All Egyptians” Initiative

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, chaired a meeting to discuss the implementation status of housing units designated for low—and middle-income citizens under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s “Housing for All Egyptians” initiative. The meeting also reviewed performance indicators and the results of the latest announcement regarding the initiative.

Regarding current achievements, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny announced significant progress in constructing housing units for low-income citizens. A total of 721,000 residential units have been completed under the presidential initiative. Additionally, 251,000 more units have been completed, with 54,600 housing units allocated under the Green Housing Program across nine cities.

27,944 housing units for middle-income citizens have been implemented across 15 cities and governorates, and work is ongoing on the remaining units according to the set plans.

In this context, Mai Abdel Hamid, CEO of the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund, confirmed that 78,000 housing units were offered under the “Housing for All Egyptians 5” announcement, which witnessed high demand from citizens. 762,000 application booklets were purchased, of which 589,000 citizens paid the booking deposit, while 571,000 applicants completed their submissions via the fund’s online portal.

Mai Abdel Hamid further clarified that the total mortgage financing granted to beneficiaries amounted to EGP 81.22 billion, benefiting 617,500 citizens through 22 banks and eight mortgage finance companies. EGP 10.13 billion in direct financial support was also provided to beneficiaries across different categories.

She also pointed out that the call center has received 13 million calls since 2015 and handled 323 complaints and inquiries, with a 99% response rate from the end of 2020 until now. Furthermore, she announced preparations for new announcements to continue implementing the national “Housing for All Egyptians” project, ensuring the diverse housing needs of citizens are met.
