The Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, held a meeting to follow up on infrastructure projects in Egypt, including the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative aimed at developing rural villages. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry and entities responsible for potable water and sanitation.
During the meeting, El-Sherbiny reviewed the strategic plan for seawater desalination projects, which is based on four main pillars: meeting current challenges and needs, providing alternative water sources, supporting existing stations, and fulfilling urban development demands.
The minister presented a plan to implement 23 desalination projects over the next five years across 10 governorates. He also reviewed the status of existing projects and the planned expansions. Furthermore, he followed up on the overall progress of infrastructure projects under the presidential “Decent Life” initiative, particularly in its first phase, and examined the workflow within the workshops of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, including maintenance operations and equipment renewal.
The meeting also addressed the ministry’s reliance on local products in its projects, in line with President El-Sisi’s directives, and the status of supplies for project components. At the conclusion of the meeting, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny instructed the preparation of a comprehensive report on all projects, detailing opportunities, challenges, and the essential requirements needed to ensure maximum benefit for the Egyptian citizen.
