Minister of Housing Inspects Upgrades at South Alamein Water Purification Plant
As part of his tour in Matrouh Governorate, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, inspected the renovation and upgrade work at the South Alamein Water Purification Plant. The plant, with a daily capacity of 167,000 cubic meters, supplies water to the areas of Alamein, Sidi Abdelrahman, Dabaa, and surrounding regions. The Minister was accompanied by Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister; Dr. Mohamed Hassan, CEO of the Drinking Water and Wastewater Regulatory Agency; Engineer Ameen Ghonaim, Deputy Head of the New Urban Communities Authority for Development and City Planning; and officials from the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater and Matrouh Water and Wastewater Company.
During the visit, Minister El-Sherbiny and his delegation toured various components of the plant, including the laboratory, filters, clarifiers, pump stations, and the water intake point. The tour aimed to ensure the smooth operation of the different stages of water purification and verify the quality and safety of the water produced. The Minister received a detailed briefing from the officials of Matrouh Water Company and the plant’s management team about the operational stages and procedures in place.
Minister El-Sherbiny emphasized the importance of adhering to standard operating and maintenance procedures to keep the plant in optimal condition. He also stressed the need to maintain the plant’s aesthetic appearance, implement proper landscaping, and strictly follow occupational safety and health regulations, including fire safety systems and other civil protection measures.
In addition, the Minister directed the Drinking Water and Wastewater Regulatory Agency to intensify regular monitoring of performance levels at various plants. He instructed water and wastewater companies and plant managers to implement necessary corrective actions and ensure their execution. He also tasked members of the minister’s technical office with regularly monitoring the progress of ongoing works to ensure timely completion.
