Minister of Housing Inspects Ongoing Works to Develop the 26th of July Corridor

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, inspected the ongoing development works of the 26th of July Corridor within the scope of 6th of October City and Sheikh Zayed City. The inspection was conducted in the presence of ministry officials, representatives of the New Urban Communities Authority, as well as the heads of the two city authorities.

During the tour, the Minister followed up on the progress of the corridor works, which include expanding the road through the central island beneath the monorail track along the 26th of July Corridor. The project extends from its intersection with the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road to its intersection with the Wahat Road. He directed for the works to be completed quickly while ensuring proper site landscaping and maintenance of the green areas along both sides of the road and the central island. He also emphasized the need to increase road signage to facilitate movement for road users.

The Minister stressed the importance of adhering to the latest road safety standards and renewing existing signage to achieve maximum operational efficiency. He also highlighted the need to minimize the impact of construction works on traffic flow, pointing out that this project is part of the ministry’s continuous efforts to improve infrastructure services and enhance the quality of the road network.

The development works focus on increasing the road’s capacity by adding new traffic lanes through the expansion of the central island, which contributes to easing traffic congestion. The plan also includes improving the quality of the existing asphalt layer and enhancing traffic guidance and warning systems such as road markings and ground signs to ensure the highest safety standards for users. In addition, safe pedestrian crossings are being provided.

The project also pays special attention to selecting specific types of plants that balance aesthetic appeal with low water consumption. This ensures urban landscaping and the attractiveness of the corridor without negatively affecting the national October Monorail Project, reflecting the significance of this corridor for the residents of 6th of October and Sheikh Zayed cities.

In a related context, the Minister also inspected the eastern expansions of 6th of October City to review the status of allocated lands and identify vacant plots in the area. It is worth noting that this region enjoys a strategic location near key axes such as Wahat Road and the 26th of July Corridor, and is equipped with integrated services and facilities, making it a modern residential area.
