Engineer Sherif El-Sharbeni, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, announced significant progress in the construction of a new hospital in New Qena City, which will have a capacity of 175 beds. The project is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance public service infrastructure in new cities.
During a recent inspection, the Minister confirmed that the hospital is nearing completion and will include all essential facilities and services. In addition to the hospital, a youth center and a potable water station are being developed to serve the city’s growing population.

The hospital, situated in the northern extension of the first residential district, is being built on a 6-acre plot. The six-story facility will feature operating rooms, dialysis units, neonatal incubators, inpatient rooms, and support facilities such as electrical rooms, water pumps, and waste management units. It will also include an underground water tank, a mosque, a perimeter fence, and secured gates. As of now, the project is 91% complete.
Youth Center Development
Alongside the hospital, the city is constructing a 15-acre youth center in the central service area. This multi-purpose facility will offer amenities such as two swimming pools (including a diving pool for children), a football field, tennis courts, a mosque, security rooms, a cafeteria, and utility rooms. The youth center is also nearing completion, with 90% of the work finished.
Other Key Projects
New Qena City is also advancing other infrastructure projects. The first phase of a wastewater treatment plant, with a capacity of 23,000 cubic meters per day, is under construction in the second residential district. Meanwhile, the 3.5-acre Rihana Park in the first residential district is also being developed to enhance recreational spaces.
These projects underscore the Egyptian government’s commitment to improving the quality of life in new urban areas. By prioritizing infrastructure and essential services, New Qena City aims to accommodate the demands of rapid population growth and economic development.
