Cairo, Egypt – Eng. Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, delivered a speech on behalf of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly at the opening of the 9th Builders of Egypt Forum. He expressed gratitude to the African Union of Construction Contractors for organizing this important event, which brings together diverse expertise to explore opportunities for cooperation in development.
Urban Development Focus in Egypt’s 2030 Vision
Minister El-Sherbini emphasized that Egypt has prioritized urban development within its comprehensive strategy, “Egypt Vision 2030.” The first key objective of this vision is to enhance the quality of life for Egyptian citizens and improve living standards, aligning with the New Urban Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 11, which seeks to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
Under the guidance of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt has taken urban development as a national priority, addressing long-standing issues while driving economic and urban growth. These efforts also aim to attract both local and foreign investment.
Achievements in Housing and Infrastructure Development
The Minister highlighted Egypt’s success in completing numerous developmental projects across housing, unsafe area redevelopment, the establishment of new cities, and water and wastewater projects. These achievements were made possible through public-private partnerships and collaboration with construction companies that have gained substantial experience from working on a variety of national projects.
Future Focus: Expanding Regional Development
El-Sherbini noted that the theme of the forum, “Opportunities for Egyptian Companies in Regional Development Plans,” aligns with the Ministry of Housing’s upcoming priorities. In addition to the country’s efforts to export real estate, Egypt’s extensive experience in diverse projects has prepared it to export construction and building expertise. The Minister reaffirmed his support for Egyptian companies to expand their presence in both African and Arab markets in the near future.
African Cooperation Agreements
The Minister also mentioned that several cooperation agreements were signed with African nations this year, covering various sectors, including construction and real estate development. Egypt is set to host the African Ministerial Meeting during the World Urban Forum, where the Egyptian experience will be showcased, further enhancing future collaboration opportunities.
In conclusion, Eng. Sherif El-Sherbini, on behalf of Prime Minister Madbouly, called on private sector companies involved in urban development to participate in the World Urban Forum and continue working alongside the Egyptian government to execute the projects of the New Republic.
