Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, received Major General Tarek Fathy El-Weshahy, Director of the Water Department at the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, to discuss seawater desalination and infrastructure projects. El-Sherbiny emphasized the importance of implementing political leadership directives to maximize investments in basic infrastructure, noting the existence of a strategic plan for seawater desalination extending until 2050.
The Minister of Housing highlighted the importance of operating and maintaining completed projects, especially seawater desalination plants, to preserve investments in the utilities sector. He directed the acceleration of work in coordination with relevant entities to complete projects according to standard specifications. The meeting also addressed the status of desalination plants on the northwest coast, specifically in the Sidi Heneish and Matrouh areas, as well as plants in Port Said and the Red Sea.
The discussion also covered the progress of the integrated strategy for managing and separating rainwater in Alexandria, implemented by the Water Department of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority. Work has been completed in some areas, helping to resolve rainwater accumulation issues in critical spots. At the same time, efforts continue in other regions in coordination with Alexandria Governorate, the Sewage Company, and Alexandria University.
After the meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Housing, the Engineering Authority, and relevant entities to ensure the timely completion of projects.
