Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, held a meeting to follow up on utility projects across Egypt, including the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative for village development. The meeting was attended by officials from the ministry and relevant authorities.
El-Sherbiny reviewed the strategic plan for seawater desalination projects, which includes four main pillars: addressing current challenges and population growth, providing alternative water resources, supporting existing plants, and meeting urban development needs.
The minister outlined the plan to implement 23 desalination projects over the next five years in 10 governorates, in addition to reviewing the status of ongoing projects and planned expansions. He also followed up on the overall progress of utility projects under the presidential “Decent Life” initiative and its first phase, and discussed the operational mechanism of workshops managed by the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, including maintenance and equipment renewal activities.
The meeting addressed the reliance on local products in projects under the ministry’s supervision, in line with President El-Sisi’s directives, as well as the status of supply chains for project components.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny instructed the preparation of a comprehensive report on all projects, including opportunities, challenges, and necessary requirements to maximize benefits for Egyptian citizens.
