Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, held a meeting with the Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs and the Director of the Housing and Architecture Research Institute to review the national strategy for green urban development and discuss its implementation steps. The meeting was attended by officials from the ministry.
The minister emphasized that this strategy is a core pillar for achieving sustainable development and promoting a green economy. He stressed the need to develop a comprehensive executive plan that includes implementation mechanisms, as well as technical and legislative frameworks, to accelerate execution and create a broader impact on cities.
He pointed out that the activation of the green building system aims to:
-
Promote green projects as a source of national income
-
Support green financing and urban sustainability
-
Improve resource and energy efficiency
-
Increase public awareness and education
These objectives are designed to help build resilient and sustainable cities.
During the meeting, Dr. Abdel Khalek Ibrahim, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs, presented the key axes of the national strategy for green and sustainable construction. He outlined the criteria and incentives that will be offered to real estate developers who comply with the strategy. These incentives are categorized based on the level of standards met and include:
-
Monetary incentives: tax exemptions and financing facilities
-
Non-monetary incentives: simplified procedures, land allocation priorities, and environmental certification
Dr. Hend Farouh, Director of the Housing and Architecture Research Institute, also presented the required standards for accessing these incentives. These include the use of energy- and water-saving tools and materials, recycled materials, and efficient lighting systems.
The Minister of Housing concluded the meeting by directing the specialized teams to prepare a detailed executive plan for the strategy in preparation for its public announcement and official rollout in coordination with relevant entities.
