Minister of Housing Directs New City Heads to Prioritize Local Products in All Projects

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met with deputies, assistants from the New Urban Communities Authority, and city heads to monitor project progress. The minister emphasized the importance of the meeting in accelerating work rates and exchanging expertise. He stated that the meeting aimed to discuss multiple topics and unify ideas and objectives. He also stressed the importance of executing projects per President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to localize industries, focusing on using locally manufactured products and maximizing resources and revenues.

The Minister of Housing highlighted the necessity for city heads to report any issues immediately to prevent escalation. He underscored the importance of continuous error rectification and announced the establishment of evaluation criteria for department heads and their assistants and a training plan for employees. During the meeting, officials were directed to form a sub-governance department, carefully select employees, and implement a digital transformation plan for citizen interactions. The minister also emphasized the need for officials to monitor projects on-site actively.

The minister instructed department heads to identify their needs and follow up on ongoing projects to overcome obstacles and increase productivity. He stressed the importance of evaluating contractors and taking action against underperforming companies. Additionally, he highlighted the need for road maintenance, improved street lighting, and the development of urban corridors. New projects, including the “Your Home in Egypt” initiative for Egyptians living abroad, were also discussed. The minister reaffirmed the commitment to delivering high-quality housing units on schedule and addressing the needs of applicants in the “Beit Al-Watan” project.

The meeting also covered ongoing housing projects, including constructing 100,000 housing units under the presidential initiative “Housing for All Egyptians.” The minister stressed the urgency of completing these projects while also planning for new future developments.
