Minister of Housing Chairs the Supreme Coordination Committee Meeting to Oversee Work Files in All Cities

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, chaired the meeting of the Supreme Coordination Committee yesterday evening from New Alamein City. The meeting focused on tracking progress across all new cities. It was attended by senior officials from the Ministry and the New Urban Communities Authority, along with city authority heads who participated via video conference.

Engineer El-Sherbiny emphasized that the meeting aimed to address several crucial issues, most notably the maintenance of roads and thoroughfares in all cities. He highlighted that road upkeep helps reduce accidents and ensures safe, unobstructed movement for both pedestrians and vehicles. The Minister instructed that road maintenance—both on main roads and inner streets—should be a continuous effort, with regular on-site follow-up by city officials to produce tangible improvements. He also called for efficiency upgrades for roads that need enhancement.

In addition, the Minister directed the preparation of a comprehensive report listing all major and internal roads undergoing maintenance or upgrades, along with identifying those in need of such work to allow for immediate action.

Furthermore, he instructed authorities to increase the number of directional signs, especially in areas where they are lacking, as this can also help reduce traffic accidents. The meeting stressed the necessity of clearly marked signage during maintenance works and emphasized coordinating with the Traffic Department and relevant entities to manage detours effectively.

Engineer El-Sherbiny underlined the importance of adhering to occupational health and safety standards, stating that this is a top priority to ensure worker safety and reduce potential on-site hazards during operations and maintenance. He also called for awareness campaigns and training sessions for workers to implement these safety protocols.

The Minister also emphasized the need to verify the efficiency of fire suppression systems in administrative buildings, warehouses, and ministry-operated stations. He called for the installation of advanced alarm systems capable of responding promptly to emergencies, and for ensuring that these systems are fully operational in all vital facilities across cities.

The meeting also addressed the status adjustment process for newly added lands in several new cities. The Minister instructed the review of submitted requests and the finalization of cases that have completed their required procedures. Additionally, he reviewed the ongoing efforts concerning the GIS (Geographic Information System) implementation across all cities and stressed the importance of ensuring high-quality outputs from the system.
