Mai Abdel Hamid, CEO of the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund, announced that the government has offered 1.2 million housing units for social housing and low-income citizens. Of these, 722,000 units have been completed. During the handover event of housing contracts under the “Housing for All Egyptians” initiative, she explained that 280,000 units are currently under construction, including 216,000 social housing units and 64,000 green housing units. Additionally, 79,000 units have been offered under the “Housing for All Egyptians 5” announcement, along with 28,000 medium-income housing units, including 5,000 in governorates and 23,000 in new cities.
Mai Abdel Hamid stated that since the launch of the housing program in 2014, the number of applicants has reached 2.174 million citizens, with growing trust in the program year after year. She pointed out that the latest announcement attracted 571,000 applicants, surpassing the previous record of 500,000 applicants in 2015-2016. She also mentioned that the number of housing units currently under construction in new cities has reached 599,000 units, with 423,868 units completed and 144,760 still under construction. She emphasized that the 10th of Ramadan City is one of the most significant new cities within the project, where 67,288 units have been completed, and 14,448 units are currently being built.
She stressed the importance of expanding green housing, noting that 10,740 housing units are being implemented under the fifth and sixth phases of the project, along with 2,232 units designated for medium-income housing. She also indicated that the allocation of the remaining units will continue according to the different implementation phases, explaining that applicants for the “Housing for All Egyptians 5” units will be contacted next Tuesday.
