On Thursday, May 1, 2025, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, continued his inspection tour by visiting the project for the implementation of the additional pipeline with a diameter of 2200 mm, extending from the Maadi intake to the New Cairo Water Treatment Plant. He was accompanied during the visit by several officials from the Ministry of Housing, the New Urban Communities Authority, the Drinking Water and Wastewater Regulatory Agency, the Executive Agency for Drinking Water and Wastewater, and the Head of the New Cairo Authority.
During the tour, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny reviewed various components of the project and the ongoing works on the pipeline. The project is part of a broader plan to enhance and upgrade the efficiency of the main water lines, stations, and lifting stations that supply New Cairo, in accordance with the renewal and replacement plan for the city’s drinking water system.
The additional pipeline, with a diameter of 2200 mm—or 2600 mm in some sections depending on the specified route based on the longitudinal and cross-sectional layout of the road and intersections—is being constructed from the Maadi intake to the New Cairo Drinking Water Treatment Plant. This project aims to supplement the existing line, increase the total volume of water produced and supplied to the city, and avoid water supply interruptions in case of any malfunctions in the old line.
