Dr. Abdel Khalek Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing, followed up on the development works in Downtown Cairo, including the renovation of Al-Azbakeya Garden, during a meeting with officials from Arab Contractors Company and the consulting office. The project includes the revitalization of Talaat Harb Square, Mostafa Kamel Square, Al-Qadi Al-Fadel Street, and Mohamed Sabry Street. It also focuses on enhancing the façades of historic buildings and reorganizing the streets as part of the broader development plan for the Khedivial Cairo area, covering approximately 18 acres.
Engineer Mona Abdelsalam explained that the development works include the Opera Garage and the administrative building of Cairo Governorate, which consists of nine floors and spans 10,000 square meters. The project also involves the restoration of the historic Al-Azbakeya Garden, aiming to preserve its heritage and aesthetic value, with particular attention to its rare trees. Spanning 45,000 square meters, the project comprises several buildings, including an administrative structure, a Roman theater, and a lake with a historic fountain.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on increasing the workforce to accelerate completion in accordance with established standards and the project timeline. Attention will also be given to maintaining the existing plants and the book vendor kiosks located along the Al-Azbakeya Garden fence.
