EGP 857 Million Allocated for Drinking Water and Sanitation Development in Monufia

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, followed up with Engineer Mamdouh Raslan, Chairman of the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, on the progress of drinking water and sanitation projects in Monufia Governorate and strategies for improving citizen services. This is part of the state’s plan to develop infrastructure and modernize utility systems.

Housing Ministry: EGP 857 Million Allocated for Drinking Water and Sanitation Development in Monufia

The Minister of Housing emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation of current projects while adhering to the highest quality standards in operation and maintenance to protect the significant investments allocated to the utilities sector. He highlighted that the government prioritizes water and sanitation projects, particularly in rural areas, as part of the presidential initiative “Decent Life,” which aims to achieve sustainable development and enhance citizens’ quality of life.

Engineer Roshdy El-Sayed Omar, Chairman of Monufia’s Drinking Water and Sanitation Company, presented an overview of the projects implemented during the current fiscal year, which include:

  • Sanitation projects were funded by the World Bank, with a total investment of 700 million EGP.
  • Water and sanitation projects funded by the governorate, valued at EGP 17.4 million.
  • Expansion, reinforcement, replacement, and renewal works worth EGP 155.9 million.

Additionally, he noted that the total length of newly implemented water networks reached 41 km, while the length of new sewage networks reached 10 km.

Other key projects include:

  • The replacement and renewal of 26 water purification plants and 12 water treatment and pumping stations.
  • The expansion and enhancement of sewage networks in Al-May village, Shebin El-Kom district.
  • The construction of a lifting station to meet the needs of social housing units in the Al-Raheb area.
  • The sustainable sanitation project, funded by the World Bank, aims to serve 16 villages in the Tala district and benefit approximately 180,000 residents.
