As part of the collaboration between the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and the Ministry of Culture, and under the patronage of Minister of Housing Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny and Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henno—the General Authority for Cultural Palaces has officially received the first site for the “Café Cultural” project located in the Mazarine Compound in New Alamein City.
The event was attended by Major General Khaled El-Labban, Assistant to the Minister of Culture; Eng. Khaled Sorour, Assistant Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA); and Eng. Ahmed Ibrahim, Head of the New Alamein City Authority.
Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny emphasized that New Alamein is one of Egypt’s fourth-generation cities, designed to offer comprehensive services including cultural life. He noted that the “Café Cultural” initiative is part of ongoing efforts to transform the city into a modern urban model that combines high quality of life with economic, cultural, and entertainment activities. This project aligns with the broader vision for developing Egypt’s Northwestern Coast.
Eng. Khaled Sorour, Assistant Vice President of NUCA, stated that the “Café Cultural” project aims to spread a message of culture and art through creative performances and artistic workshops. While it is being launched in New Alamein, there are plans to replicate the experience in other cities in partnership with the Ministry of Culture.
Eng. Ahmed Ibrahim, Head of the New Alamein City Authority, added that the Café Cultural will span a space of 440 square meters in the Mazarine Compound, making it a valuable addition to the city’s cultural and entertainment landscape. More than just a hospitality venue, the café will foster meaningful engagement between the public and the arts.
The project will include multiple functions: a cultural café, a co-working space, a mini-library, a crafts and arts exhibition area, and various cultural and artistic events. Its primary objectives are to enhance access to cultural services, support artists and craftsmen, and create sustainable employment opportunities.
The program also includes art workshops for students during the winter season and exhibitions and auctions in the summer. Additionally, it will feature a permanent outlet for Ministry of Culture publications, contributing to the promotion of local cultural production and community engagement.
The handover of the first project site in New Alamein marks the beginning of interior preparations ahead of the official launch. The broader plan aims to replicate this model across Egypt as creative hubs that showcase youth potential and enrich the country’s cultural life.
