Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, received Mr. Oka Hiroshi, the Japanese Ambassador in Cairo, along with his accompanying delegation, at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. During the meeting, both sides discussed avenues for enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Japan in several areas of mutual interest, in the presence of officials from the Ministry and the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA).
The Minister of Housing opened the meeting by welcoming the Japanese Ambassador and his delegation, noting Egypt’s keenness to strengthen collaboration with Japan across various sectors. He highlighted the ongoing cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on land use impact studies in Greater Cairo, aimed at exploring sustainable development opportunities and their effects on urban growth in the region.
The Minister also expressed his ambition to expand joint efforts in the fields of potable water and wastewater utilities. He emphasized the potential for partnerships between Egyptian and Japanese companies to transfer and localize advanced technologies in water, sanitation, and desalination sectors, which would contribute to increasing local production of equipment and supplies essential for such projects.
Furthermore, the Minister reviewed Egypt’s achievements in urban development, including the construction of the New Administrative Capital and strategies for land utilization and housing units. He affirmed the government’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and offering incentives to attract investment.
For his part, the Japanese Ambassador conveyed Japan’s interest in deepening cooperation with Egypt in infrastructure and fourth-generation cities. He praised Egypt’s urban development experience and emphasized Japan’s willingness to collaborate further.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to maintain ongoing coordination to bolster joint cooperation moving forward.
