Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, along with Engineer Hazem El-Ashmouni, Governor of Sharqia, inaugurated a new wastewater treatment plant in the village of Khalil Al-Azzazi, located in Zagazig, Sharqia Governorate, on Tuesday. The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Housing and the Governorate.
During the inauguration, Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny highlighted that the project is part of the state’s efforts to enhance public services, praising the significant role played by the participating entities that contributed to the project’s success.
He emphasized that the plant delivers high-quality services that meet citizens’ needs and ensure their satisfaction. He also stressed the importance of maintaining service levels through regular maintenance and confirmed that the Ministry of Housing will continue to support developmental projects across the governorates in line with the state’s vision for sustainable development and improving citizens’ quality of life.

For his part, the Governor of Sharqia expressed his delight at the Minister’s visit to the region and his participation in celebrating the 144th National Day of the governorate through the inauguration of several sanitation projects in the district. He underlined the importance of these projects in promoting environmental sustainability and safeguarding public health.
The Minister and Governor also listened to a detailed presentation on the plant, which was executed by the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage. The facility serves nearly 2,400 residents, with an operational capacity of 15.39 liters per second, covering an area of 420 square meters. It includes a gravity sewer network extending 1.265 kilometers, two pressure pipelines totaling 2,615 meters, and a pumping station comprising several components such as the wet well, operation chamber, generator building, fuel tank, transformer kiosk, guard room, and water hammer chamber.
The inauguration was attended by representatives from the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, and the Sharqia Water and Wastewater Company, as well as members of Parliament from the governorate and executive officials from the concerned authorities.
