Housing Minister and Governor of Minya Follow Up on Drinking Water and Wastewater Systems in the Governorate

During his visit to Minya Governorate, Minister of Housing and Utilities Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny and Governor of Minya Major General Emad Kadwany reviewed the progress of drinking water and wastewater projects, particularly those under the “Decent Life” initiative. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Housing, the governorate, members of parliament, and representatives from the relevant companies. Minister El-Sherbiny stressed the need to intensify efforts and adhere to the set timelines, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure the success of these projects.

The Minister of Housing and the Governor of Minya were briefed on the status of the drinking water system in the governorate, which includes 197 stations producing a total of 9,898,325 cubic meters per day, achieving a coverage rate of up to 98%. Additionally, 81,801 prepaid water meters have been installed.

The wastewater system was also reviewed, comprising 101 treatment and pumping stations, which treat 188,249 cubic meters of wastewater daily. Furthermore, they discussed the projects of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company being implemented under the “Decent Life” initiative, aimed at developing 192 villages through improvements to water and sanitation networks and station upgrades.

The Minister and Governor also inspected ongoing wastewater projects serving 192 villages under the first phase of the presidential “Decent Life” initiative across several centers. Achievements by the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation in the governorate between 2014 and 2025 were highlighted, including 10 drinking water stations and 3 wastewater treatment projects. They also followed up on the implementation status of the second phase of the initiative, targeting 99 villages, and reviewed the investment plan, which includes 8 drinking water stations and various urban and rural sanitation projects.
