Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, and Major General Ahmed Khaled, Governor of Alexandria, conducted a joint field visit today to monitor the progress of the drinking water and wastewater systems in Alexandria. The tour included a meeting at the Crisis Management Control Center of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company, attended by officials from the Ministry of Housing, the Governorate, and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater.
During the visit, the minister and the governor were briefed on the operational mechanism of the control center, which is equipped with crisis management vehicles and various specialized software tools. They listened to a detailed explanation of the center’s functions, including responding to public complaints, issuing work permits, and coordinating with utility service providers.
The meeting also included a comprehensive review of the drinking water system in Alexandria, which comprises 10 water treatment plants with a total capacity of 3.5 million cubic meters per day, 42 pumping stations, 37 customer service centers, and a network spanning 9,483 kilometers. The company’s strategic plans were discussed, aligned with Egypt Vision 2030, focusing on upgrading infrastructure and meeting future water demands, along with measures to rationalize energy and water consumption.
Additionally, the progress of the wastewater system was discussed. Alexandria’s wastewater infrastructure includes 21 treatment plants and 183 pumping stations, supported by 3,646 kilometers of gravity networks and 305 kilometers of pressurized pipelines, with a design capacity of approximately 1.8 million cubic meters per day. The discussions emphasized performance improvement and the implementation of urgent sanitation projects.
The minister and governor also visited the Ibrahimia Customer Service Center for drinking water to inspect workflow and service quality. Minister El-Sherbiny praised the performance of the Alexandria Water Company’s Control and Monitoring Center, underlining the importance of ensuring adequate water and sanitation services while minimizing water losses. He also stressed the need to adhere to station operation schedules and to apply prompt solutions in high-priority areas, along with continuous coordination with the governor to implement development projects and enhance citizen services.
