The Housing Committee of the House of Representatives convened today, Tuesday, to review the recent statement delivered by the Minister of Housing during the general parliamentary session.
During the meeting, Minister of Housing and Utilities, Sherif El-Sherbiny, emphasized that the ministry faces no challenges concerning the performance rates of national projects. However, he highlighted that financial inflows are the primary driver for the ministry’s operations.
Mamdouh Raslan, Chairman of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, shared updates on the company’s financial allocations. He noted that the state budget for the current fiscal year approved EGP 7 billion for the company. Of this amount, EGP 6.3 billion has been executed in works, with payment orders issued for EGP 4.2 billion. However, the full amount has yet to be made available, and additional works are ongoing or under review.
Amin Shawky, representative of the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation, stated that the authority was allocated EGP 7 billion in the current fiscal year’s budget. With supplementary funds, the total allocation rose to EGP 12.1 billion. However, only EGP 4 billion has been made available, of which EGP 3.6 billion has been spent. Shawky added that payment orders are subject to varying delays.
He further explained that EGP 3.5 billion from the second phase of the “Decent Life” initiative was utilized from the balance of the first phase, which has impacted the progress of the initial phase.
This meeting highlighted the financial challenges impacting the implementation of critical infrastructure and housing projects despite significant allocations.
