Dr. Mohamed Atiya El-Fayoumi, Chairman of the Housing Committee in the House of Representatives, affirmed that the debates circulating on social media platforms regarding the alleged unconstitutionality of some provisions in the Old Rent Law are baseless from both legal and constitutional perspectives. He clarified that the law is progressing in accordance with the correct procedures as outlined in the Constitution.
In a phone interview, El-Fayoumi pointed out that the law is still within the 30-day period granted to the President of the Republic for ratification, noting that “only ten days have passed” since the law was sent to the President. Therefore, discussions about the “law being void” or the “end of the parliamentary session” are unfounded and hold no legal weight.
The Chairman of the Housing Committee stressed that the law aligns with the Constitution and the rulings of the Supreme Constitutional Court. He expressed his appreciation for the political leadership that places justice as a top priority, adding that the President constantly emphasizes fairness and represents all Egyptians without discrimination toward any particular group.
El-Fayoumi concluded his remarks by highlighting the importance of Article 8 of the law, which aims to protect low-income tenants. He regarded this article as a fundamental step toward achieving social balance and ensuring justice for all.
