Head of New Damietta City Authority Inspects Road Improvement and Maintenance Works

Engineer Ashraf Fathi Mahmoud, Head of the New Damietta City Authority, and the relevant departments’ directors inspected the ongoing road improvement and maintenance works on the coastal road, a significant and essential route for the city’s residents and visitors. The work that has already commenced involves using the modern FDR (Full Depth Recycling) machine, a cutting-edge tool in road rehabilitation and efficiency improvement. This technology significantly extends the life span of roads by several decades. It addresses one of the significant challenges that affect traffic flow and causes damage to specific sections of the coastal road, which had previously been repaired.

Engineer Mahmoud emphasized the need for quick completion of maintenance work on the urgent areas, particularly at the eastern entrance to the city and in front of the Ambulance checkpoint.

The Head of the Authority pointed out that this project is in line with the instructions of Engineer Sherif El-Shorbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, to ensure regular follow-up and timely completion of ongoing projects in the new cities.

In related developments, Engineer Mahmoud inspected the asphalt layer application and road rehabilitation as part of the replacement, renewal, and rehabilitation of the sewage network in Al-Mashtal Street, First District. He confirmed that the development includes replacing worn-out sewage lines and resurfacing the road from the Military Hospital to the Industrial Area Square.

Continuing his inspection, Engineer Mahmoud visited residential neighborhoods (First, Second, and Central areas). He emphasized the need to intensify cleanliness efforts, maintain landscaping, and plant all empty plots in the median strips along the roads. He followed up on all services and eliminated encroachments to sustain the city’s aesthetic and developmental appearance.

Engineer Ashraf Fathi Mahmoud also visited the city’s drinking water station, which has a capacity of 172 m³/day and serves the town, Damietta Port, and the Free Zone.

During a meeting at the station with the operating companies, he reviewed the progress of efficiency enhancement works, the monitoring system, operation and maintenance activities, sound levels, water pressures, and flow rates. He stressed the importance of steady monitoring to quickly detect issues and assess the station’s capacity and operational efficiency to ensure it can accommodate current and future expansions in New Damietta while maintaining regular operation.

The Head of the Authority directed the heads of the executive departments to expedite the completion of civil maintenance works at the station and to intensify regular maintenance efforts. He also instructed the preparation of periodic follow-up reports and the strict adherence to recording daily logs to monitor each phase of the work at the station and report back to him.
