Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced the inauguration of several new maritime terminals at East Port Said Port, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The event included the opening of the Suez Canal Automotive Trading Company and the Sky Ports multipurpose logistics terminal.
During his speech, El-Sisi expressed his aspirations to boost the inflow of foreign investments in the transport and logistics sector, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing all necessary facilities to support investors.
Established in 2015 by a presidential decree, the Suez Canal Economic Zone is a free zone and global trade hub spanning 460 square kilometers. The zone aims to attract international companies to invest in a favorable environment that enables easy access to regional markets.

Keith Svendsen, Deputy CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, indicated the company’s intention to increase its investments in Egypt in the coming period, praising the facilities offered by the Egyptian government.
East Port Said Port, located at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal, is considered one of the most prominent ports in the region. It has been ranked the best container port in Africa and the third globally on the list of the top 100 container ports worldwide. Olivier De Noray, Chairman of the Suez Canal Automotive Trading Company (SCAT), affirmed the company’s ambition to make Egypt a hub for automobile manufacturing and export to international markets.
Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, added that between 2016 and 2025 the zone attracted investments worth $11.6 billion, most of which focused on localizing key industries including green hydrogen production, in line with the national low-carbon hydrogen strategy.
Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, pointed to a comprehensive plan that includes upgrading 14 ports and establishing 5 new ones, with the aim of transforming Egypt into one of the world’s leading centers in transport, logistics, and transit trade.
